This is important:
A week ago I promised that a portion of what you pay for “Fifty-Three Weeks” would be given to address issues that provide the backdrop for my novel. Those issues are homelessness and racial justice–and $2.00 of every purchase will go to a pair of programs (both here in greater Milwaukee) that I know and trust: “Race and Faith,” and “Divine Intervention.”
What’s Race and Faith? It’s Rhonda Hill, a Black woman of faith and passionate seeker of justice, who pulls people and resources together and equips them to effectively walk the justice road.
Divine Intervention began when a small neighborhood Presbyterian church in Milwaukee’s Bay View neighborhood (near my former church) wanted to provide overnight safe space for those on the street during Milwaukee’s cold winter months. A traditional shelter was beyond their means, so they offer instead a simple overnight “warming room,” plus a meal and other services. They’ve added a year-around meal outreach, partly supported with meals from local restaurants, partly through donations.
You and I both know that there are many wonderful, effective programs and ministries seeking to love the poor and marginalized in every community this post reaches, and they deserve our support. But these two answer needs in the community that is my home; I’ve personally participated in each of them, and I want any success of “Fifty-Three Weeks” to bless them as well.
I’d encourage you to check them out for yourselves. Each will share equally from every book sold—and this includes any books already purchased. (Also, $1.00 will be shared from every ebook downloaded at the regular $4.99 price).
This has long been my dream: to write a book, and to see it become a blessing to others.
